Kerala, a state on India’s tropical Malabar Coast, has nearly 600km of Arabian Sea shoreline. It’s known for its palm-lined beaches and backwaters, a network of canals. The beaches and shorelines of Kerala, washed by the pleasant tropical sun, are peaceful and pristine as ever and contribute to the attraction of domestic and international tourists. Visitors to Kerala beaches get to relax on the golden sands of the beaches of Kerala, or stretch out in the shade of the rows of palm trees along the beaches, drinking the refreshing juice of tender coconuts and maybe undergoing an ayurvedic massage.
3 Hours Before Flight Time
On the first day of your Kerala Coastal Holiday, you will be picked up from the Cochin International Airport and transferred to the hotel at Fort Cochin. In the evening you are free to go, enjoying the beach walk and exotic seafood restaurants.
After an early breakfast, you will commence your Coastal Holiday in Kerala. Fitting out your bikes, you can spend your time exploring this heritage of Fort Kochi and Mattanchery town. You will be taken to ancient churches, synagogue, museums and Chinese fishing nets. In the evening, you will witness the performance of classical art forms of Kerala including Kathakali, Mohiniyattom and Kalari payattu.
Leaving behind the busy roads of Fort Cochin, you will hit the beach road that will take you to you Andhakaranazhi , a beautiful coastal village where you will have the Lunch. Today’s ride will take you along roads that have the fishing villages and coconut plantations on one side and the sea on the other. You will reach your destination for the day, Marari beach. You could wind down by spending the afternoon on the beach.
After a relaxed breakfast, you head to Alleppey, known for its serene backwaters. On this day you will be cycling away from the beach side, sandy terrain to the lush green backwater country side trails. The route passes through country roads and small villages where you will see coconut husk being processed and made into coir ropes and mats. You hit the backwaters and cycle along the waters till you reach the Alleppey. Here you will clamber on to one of Kerala’s most luxurious forms of accommodation and transport, the houseboat. Reclining on cushions and drifting through quiet canals, you will pass through paddy fields, teams of ducks, floating markets, local toddy shops, temples and churches.
On this day morning, your House boat will be docked at Pallathuruthy , a small village at Eastern side of Alappuzha. You will cycle through the roads along the lush green Paddy fields towards Kuttanad, one of the few places in the world where farming is done below the sea level. This wetland is remarkable for its migratory bird population. There are network of brackish lagoons and canals all over, making duck rearing and fish farming a common source of livelihood. Exploring the alluring beauty of paddy fields and backwaters through the country side trails on a bicycle can be unique and personal experience. Evening you will be staying at a beautiful lake side Villa.
After having breakfast, you will be cycling towards Thakazhi, where you can see Karumadi kuttan, a Buddha statue which is believed to be old as 9th to 14th century. And then heading to Fishermen village of Thrikunnapuzha, where you can see various activities related to their livelihood. From there, you will be carried in our vehicle to reach Krishnapuram Palace which was built in the 18th century AD by the Maharaja of the Travancore kingdom. After witnessing the antique piece of Architecture you can enjoy a calm journey in our Van to Beach side Hotel at Kollam, where you will be spending this Night.
From the Hotel you start riding to Thankassery Beach to see the Thankassery Fort which was associated with the Chinese trade from the first millennium AD and later colonised by the Portuguese, Dutch and the British to become the “gold village”. The uneven Coastal road towards Mayyanadu Beach will be covered in our Vehicle. From there you can restart pedalling to Kappil Beach restaurant for the Lunch. After a short relaxation, You can begin the ride heading to Varkala beach,which is counted among top ten seasonal beaches in the world. You will be free to enjoy the Sunset and have a great evening here.
